Plaswood is a high performance lumber and is manufactured in the UK by the Plaswood Group from 100% recycled plastic. It offers a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to using traditional materials, such as hardwood, concrete and steel.
A new canal bank at the Ryeford Causeway, Stroud, Gloucestershire, has been built using Plaswood ‘plastic wood’ lumber posts by the Cotswold Canals Trust, with assistance from ‘Help for Heroes’ volunteers formed of ex-servicemen, women and veterans.
Mike Baxter, External Affairs Director, RPC bpi recycled products, Plaswood Group said: “Plaswood has been used by the Cotswold Canals Trust on other canal restoration projects as it provides a versatile, long-lasting solution in wet, harsh or damp environments, which along with its strength and long life expectancy make it ideal for revetment walls and embankment supports.”
The Chief Executive of the Cotswold Canals Trust, Ken Burgin, said: “Once again we have used Plaswood for canal restorations as it’s ideal for wet environments due its strength, longevity and the low maintenance it requires.”
The new brown blend of lumber, named Earth Brown, compliments the Jet Black and six other colour options and provides long-lasting solutions for flood barriers, boardwalks, jetties, marinas, wetlands, fencing, furniture and structures located in wet, harsh or damp environments.
Plaswood is becoming increasingly popular with waterways management professionals, architects, builders’ merchants, civil engineering and construction contractors, and local authority specifiers and buyers.
The key benefits of using Plaswood are it:
• doesn’t rot or degrade with age.
• requires no painting or chemical treatment prior to use or annual maintenance after installation (unlike wood).
• is tough, durable and strong – Plaswood will not splinter, crack or dry and is resistant to attacks by insects.
• is versatile – Plaswood can easily be designed for use in conjunction with other materials.
