Glee 2019 Retail Lab Showcasing Plaswood

with No Comments

Environmental concerns have captured the hearts of the nation in the recent years. Now, people and manufactures are more aware than ever of the changes that need to be made if we are to protect our planet for future generations.

This sentiment will be echoed by exhibitors and visitors at GLEE 2019. They are being encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability by making a pledge, committing to one small conscious change to reduce their impact upon the environment. Pledges might include anything from promising to recycle more, to choosing more sustainable alternatives.

As the debate on plastic continues, one company showcasing its products at GLEE is doing all it can to use more plastic, not less – and for good reason.

Plaswood, a brand of lumber, garden and street furniture, is made from recycled plastic and is fully recyclable.* The award-winning products are manufactured by Berry bpi group, one of Europe’s largest recyclers of plastic and manufacturer of second life products.

Polythene plastic waste is collected at the company’s dedicated recycling plant in Dumfries, Scotland. There, the pre-loved plastic is shredded and washed – the resultant clean flake/crumb is used for extrusion of the recycled plastic lumber, Plaswood.

Quality tested by independent experts, the versatile lumber can be fabricated, cut and drilled as traditional hardwood. The brand offers a range of fencing, decking, edging, raised beds, tables, benches and planter products available.

Because Plaswood products are made from agricultural plastic waste – material that would have ended up in landfill – the raw material offers strong environmental and technical credentials. For example, Plaswood is impervious to weather conditions, splinter free, moisture repellent and will not rot or degrade with age.

It is waterproof, durable and, unlike timber products it is maintenance-free. With a long life expectancy, long term cost savings and no annual painting, staining or general maintenance required, switching from traditional products to Plaswood begins to stack up favourably.

Plaswood’s rich heritage dates back to the 1980s and it is proud of its continued investment in innovation and product development. With a big focus on sustainability and the highest ethical standards, Plaswood products support and promote plastic recycling, while developing the circular economy in the UK.

Its latest product range has been remade with the environment in mind, it turns waste problem into a solution, which is why it is named ‘HERO’. Hero is a lighter weight product range, easy to assemble, with a semi-fabricated option available too.

You’ll be able to sit on a bright yellow Plaswood bench, located within this year’s GLEE Retail Lab for which Plaswood is a Gold Sponsor.

* As part of Berry bpi group’s commitment to manage the resources that it uses in production, Plaswood operate a ‘take back’ scheme on its products that have served their useful life. All eligible products are capable of being returned to Berry bpi group’s recycling facilities to be re-used into new Plaswood products and enjoyed by future generations.
